The GenCyber GW Middle School Girls Cybersecurity Camp (GC:MgC2) is back,

and this year it’s virtual!

The GenCyber GW Middle School Girls Cybersecurity Camp is funded by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). This will be the 7th cyber-camp to be held at the George Washington University.

This program is available FREE to 32 middle school students in grades 6, 7, and 8 from the Greater Washington DC area: the District of Columbia and the nearby suburbs including Virginia and Maryland (DMV).

We are confident that our campers will improve their knowledge and competency with the Cybersecurity Concepts, and we hope to develop a sense of community with a fun, engaging, comfortable, inspiring, and creative learning environment!

When will the camp be held?

The Summer 2022 camp will be held 5 days from June 27th to July 1st, meeting every day online from 8:45am-4:20pm, with an hour scheduled lunchbreak and additional breaks throughout the day.

What are the details?

GC:MgC2 is designed to be a 5-day virtual camp during summer 2022, positioned between interesting pre and post camp activities. The hope is to engage campers in exciting computing activities that address real-world cybersecurity problems, which in turn will influence their academic choices in the rest of their K-12 experience, ignite interest in technology and cybersecurity, and provide developmental career and college ready learning experiences.

Pre-camp outreach will take place virtually on June 11th from 9:30am-12:30pm. This will be a 3 hour event. Campers will become familiar with the virtual setup and technology that will be used during the virtual camp. The pre-camp outreach event will be engaging, interactive, and fun, generating interest in cybersecurity! It’s also a great time to meet the middle school teachers, all of the camp staff, and get to know the rest of the campers!

We plan to host three post-camp virtual activities, likely on three separate Saturdays in Fall 2022! Details and dates will be posted later!

These activities will help campers develop cybersecurity learning year round!

Is prior computing or cyber experience required?

We do not expect our campers to have any prior computing or cyber experience, in fact we assume they do not.
